The key tool for creating an authentic pad thai or flavorful stir fry, this 12” wok by Matthew Shirey is a must-have for the serious chef. Using a burned out oak log for his form, Matthew hand forges the pan with 11-gauge carbon steel and pre-seasons it by hand-rubbing a mixture of beeswax and coconut oil into the pan surface. The sturdy ¼” flat bar forged handle is riveted in place opposite a second side handle, a visual nod to Matthew’s sense for, elegant utilitarian design and the promise years of future use in your kitchen.

Care: Hand wash with hot water only. Soap will remove seasoning on the pan.

Matthew Shirey An avid student of history and tool making traditions, Matthew has long been inspired by the pioneer’s ingenuity and simple, elegant craftsmanship. His interests led him twenty years ago to attend a blacksmithing workshop in his native Pennsylvania, and he knew immediately that he had found his calling: soon, he had founded his own forge and set out to develop his craft, toiling hard on weekends even as he maintained a full time job. The years of dedication finally paid off, and he now devotes himself full-time to his passion, forging axes, knives, kitchenware and other tools whose designs are informed in equal parts by a minimalist sensibility and the durable craft of eras past.
