Hand-Dyed Sammal (Moss) Euro Sham

Hand-Dyed Sammal (Moss) Euro Sham

With its distinctive combination of modern geometric design and natural, earthy tones, this large pillow sham by Heidi Wiitanen is a striking expression of the affinity between Japanese and Finnish minimalist design. Heidi employs a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing method called itajime to create the pillow’s bold circle motif, which adds visual interest and complements the organic hemp cloth’s rich woven texture.

Care: Remove cover and hand wash using gentle detergent in cool water. Air dry. Iron on cotton setting.

Additional information

Heidi Wiitanen Heidi formed a deep connection to her childhood home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and her Finnish-American family heritage from a young age, and when her mother taught Heidi to sew as a child, it meant these family connections would be forever interwoven with her creative pursuits. Even as Heidi studied science in college and later began work as a laboratory scientist, her passion for the arts never dimmed. A few years later, Heidi decided to study fiber and fashion design at Finlandia University’s International School of Art and Design, where her program’s affiliation with Finland’s Kuopio Academy enabled her to explore her connection to Finnish design’s philosophy and aesthetic.
