Hunting Knife and Leather Sheath

2 in stock

A joint project involving artisans Don Andrade of California Custom Knives and Walter Cabal of Cabal Crafted, this knife and sheath collaboration is a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship that defines the Cultivations artisan community. Don shared with Walter his approach to crafting the knife and its envisioned use, and Walter designed a sheath that both complements and reflects each artisan’s creative vision.

Inspired by the utility and balanced design of classic hunting knives, Don’s Outdoorsman Knife features a robust, curved blade and corresponding rounded pommel, perfect for tackling diverse and demanding jobs in the wilderness. Set into a hardy and rare Westinghouse burgundy and ivory striped Micarta handle, the 4 ½” steel blade’s rugged, matte finish along the spine resolves into a polished, razor-sharp edge, perfect for carving camp pegs or preparing provisions on-site.

With its close, custom fit and clean silhouette, the handcrafted sheath by leatherworker Walter Cabal is the perfect complement to Don’s Outdoorsman Knife in both form and function. Echoing the clean, minimalist aesthetic of traditional Japanese seamless wooden sheaths, Walter’s sheath fastens horizontally at the hip and features a magnetic button to keep the knife secure when not in use. The fine leather will develop a rich patina over time, so that your knife and its holder will take on its own character with every hard-earned adventure.

Don Carlos Andrade, Walter Cabal Trace the razor’s edge of the Pacific Ocean north of Los Angeles and you may find yourself in a quiet, west-coast beach town called Los Osos (“the bears”). It’s a fitting name for avid outdoorsman and master bladesmith Don Carlos Andrade, whose heirloom-quality camp and chef knives would feel as much at home in the Ozarks as they do in Southern California.
